EXCITED is the name of a Centre for Excellent IT Education at NTNU in Trondheim at NTNU. This summer they organised a summer school that offered an opportunity for developing knowledge in the area of computing education research. Mats Daniels and Åsa Cajander were invited as teachers from Uppsala. The summer school was indeed very well organised and the schedule for the week included many invited lecturers.
Mats Daniels started off the summer school with a presentation of the area of computing education. The participants at the summer school was very interested in the presentation and asked many questions. Some of the interesting things mentioned in this presentation was how computing education is seen by science researchers. Is it really computer science to do research on computing education? I must say that this discussion is still something that you can hear in 2019, and does not only belong to the 1990’s .
Åsa Cajander and Mats Daniels talked about their experiences from doing research and development on project courses in computer science.
Teaching at summer schools is indeed a rewarding experience, and the best part of it is to hear about all the interesting research projects that people are doing around the world.
